Buy Reflective Address Signs

You will be notified when your sign is ready. Signs can be picked up from the front porch at 725 Vichy Hills Drive, Ukiah. They are sorted in alphabetical order by last name.

 We do not mail signs.

We accept orders paid by check and submitted via US Mail. Please provide your name, the address number(s), sign orientation, adequate funds ($20 per sign unless you use a discount code – see next question), and your contact information (we prefer both email and telephone). Checks can be mailed to:

Signs are 6" x 18" x .063-gauge aluminum, pre-drilled with 1/4" diameter holes one inch in from each corner (4" apart on the short side). The surface is covered with reflective green vinyl, not paint, so it will not fade. This vinyl surface covers the four mounting holes, so only those used for mounting need to be pierced. The aluminum is heavy enough that the sign can be mounted from one end, like a flag, without sagging or bending.

Signs do not come with a pole. You can purchase sign-mounting hardware at hardware and farm-supply stores. Common green "U" or "T" posts are easiest to use when they come with pre-drilled holes 4" apart that will match the predrilled holes in our signs. Depending on the store, they are called "U-posts", "utility posts", "garden posts", "light-duty fenceposts" or "green U-posts.” See details below.

Where to find posts:
Friedman's

"U-post Green" are found in Aisle 49, on the right side, in vertical racks next to the post-drivers. They have 48", 60" and 72" lengths. Sizes may be mixed in the racks.

We recommend the 60" (5-foot) length; with two feet driven into the ground, the sign will be displayed three feet above the ground. These posts also have pre-drilled holes 4" apart at the top. Our signs are pre-drilled with 1/4" holes 1" in at each corner (4” spacing when mounted horizontally, 16" if mounted vertically). (The 4' post's holes are 3" apart, and the 6' posts have no holes. At worst, a little reaming will be needed if using the 60" posts.)

Costs": $4.68 for 40”, $4.98 for 60” or $5.98 for 72”.

Tractor Supply

"Utility posts" or "Light-duty fenceposts" are found near the center of the rear wall of the store.

5' posts have holes pre-drilled 4-1/2" apart and cost  $5.49.  4' posts have holes spaced 4" apart and cost $4.99.

Home Depot

Posts are in two locations, depending on size, both in the far right aisle.

4' "Green U-posts" are on the right-hand side, past the restrooms, stored in horizontal bins. They cost $5.58 and have holes 5" apart.

5' "Green U-posts" are at the end of the same aisle but on the left-hand side, stored vertically at the left end of the T-post racks (almost hidden).  They cost $6.28 and hole spacing is 4-1/2".

The time it takes for our volunteers to make signs varies, but they are usually done within one to three weeks from when we receive your order.

Yes, you can specifically request a vertical sign by including the word “vertical” with your address number. However, the default and recommended orientation is horizontal, because it is easier for emergency responders to read.

Yes, we can accommodate a small arrow (< or >) or letter in your address if your street number is no more than 4 digits. We can accommodate adding an arrow or letter by using a larger sign (but if the digits include at least one "1" there may be room for 5 digits plus an arrow or letter).

Signs are generally limited to 5 characters. If your address has more than 5 (or five plus an arrow or letter), please contact us at admin@firesafemendocino.org to see if we have oversized signs available.
